Precision brightening for melanin-rich skin, at our Kilimani clinic
Dark spots, post-acne marks, and uneven tone are among the most persistent skin concerns, especially in African and melanin-rich skin where treatments must be more carefully calibrated. The wrong approach can trigger more pigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation: common questions
What causes hyperpigmentation on dark skin?
Most dark spots on melanin-rich skin are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH): the skin makes extra melanin after any injury or inflammation, such as acne, eczema, insect bites, shaving bumps, picking or harsh products. Sun exposure, hormones and some medications also play a part, and Nairobi's strong year-round UV makes existing marks darker and slower to fade.
How long does it take to fade dark spots?
Superficial marks usually lighten noticeably within 6 to 12 weeks of consistent treatment and daily sunscreen. Deeper or long-standing pigmentation can take several months and a structured programme. Your practitioner will tell you what to expect after examining your skin.
Are chemical peels safe for dark skin?
Yes, when the peel is chosen and applied correctly. We use gentler acids such as mandelic and controlled brightening peels that are suited to deeper skin tones, and we prepare the skin beforehand. Aggressive peels or lasers used without that care can trigger more pigmentation, which is why we always start with an assessment.
How much does hyperpigmentation treatment cost in Nairobi?
Single treatments such as a Brightening Facial or Brightening Peel are listed with their prices on our services page. Multi-session pigmentation programmes are priced at consultation because the right plan depends on how deep and widespread the pigmentation is. Most clients start with a Consultation & AI Skin Analysis or a Dermatologist Consultation.
Should I use hydroquinone or "toning" creams at home?
Please do not use hydroquinone, mercury or steroid-containing "toning" or "lightening" creams without medical supervision. They can cause rebound darkening, thinning skin and a blue-black discolouration called ochronosis that is very hard to treat. Safer home actives include azelaic acid, niacinamide, vitamin C and tranexamic acid, alongside daily SPF.
